Travis County Farm Bureau Donates Food
Families staying at the Ronald McDonald House will benefit
AUSTIN, Texas – (February 24, 2012)– Austin’s Ronald McDonald House received a large donation of food this week from the Travis County Farm Bureau. This week was National Food Checkout Day, which marks the date where most American families would have earned enough to pay for a year's supply of food.
The Farm Bureau delivered the food Wednesday morning. More than eight hundred families are guests at Austin’s Ronald McDonald House every year. Donations of wish list items along with financial contributions help provide comfort and care to families with hospitalized children.
The House acts as a home away from home for families with seriously ill children being treated at area hospitals, providing everything from a comfortable room and volunteer-prepared meals to support from staff and other guest families.
Communications Manager Jan Gunter says Farm Bureau donates each year, and in addition to donations like this, meals are prepared every day by volunteers who are working to help the families.
"It means so much to the families here. They see groups coming in, donating and cooking for them, and they see that somebody cares about what they're dealing with," said Jan. “Sometimes small kindnesses like this just give them the strength to get through another day at the hospital."
The partnership between the Travis County Farm Bureau and the Ronald McDonald House began more than ten years ago.
Ronald McDonald House of Austin celebrated its 27th year of operations this month.

The Ronald McDonald House, with its 30 guest rooms for families, provides lodging and support services in a nurturing, home-like environment where families stay together while caring for their critically ill or injured children receiving treatment in Austin-area hospitals.
Austin’s two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are places of rest and support within the walls of the hospitals for families with hospitalized children.
